Words have always incapacitated me to express my experiences, thoughts and emotions; however, as I passed through the various stages of life, it became imperative to express myself through images on paper. My sensibilities were zealously transformed into works of art. This unique sense of articulation never once felt unfamiliar or unnatural. This journey has been one of self-discovery, a voyage of exploration into the past and a deeper understanding of myself.

My current series of works - ‘Doll Dreams’ – is reflective of memories that I vividly recollect from my childhood and adolescence. ‘Dolls’ act not only as play mates, but they also represent a physical rendering to imagination and bring out a sense of belonging and possession unknown to the understanding of a child. Choosing them to narrate this autobiographical story is evocative and intentional, because to me, they function as symbols for the meaningful experiences of my past.

The desire to revisit my childhood and rekindle experiences, lucid memories and situations, have reeled through my mind – first recognitions, strange exposures to lizards as pets, a strict catholic upbringing, internal struggles and the sometimes painful, but often amazing

beauty of nature. This series is filled with specific memories of a little girl – whose reflections I see through ‘Doll Dreams’.
